It’s actually pretty incredible how the reality of material conditions doesn’t factor into the thinking or logic of a liberal at all. I don’t expect them to be diehard Marxists without exposure and education, but got-damn you’d think at some point a couple gears might accidentally click together and turn something in their brains.
It’s like, wow, you guys identified commonalities between conservative Islam and conservative Christianity and instead of taking the next step of “ohhhhh wooooowww all those “shitholes” like Iraq and Afghanistan are “shitholes” because someone (but who could ever say who…?) intentionally oppressed entire regions of the world, stole all their wealth or ability to be wealthy, and left them with nothing but conservative theocracies that were the only people/governments in the regions who were willing to stand up, do literally ANYTHING for the people, and oppose the (mysterious… who are they?) outsiders fucking everything up.”
I forget who said this, but something along the lines of “the only thing separating a guy in the Taliban from your average American hog is material conditions being good still in the US. Take away their food, access to clean water, etc. and you’ll quickly see hogs out doing what hogs everywhere do.”
Also at a certain point you’d think the liberals would ask why their leaders (both parties) have always supported conservatives to be dictators in the countries the US opposed (for mysterious reasons- oh, nvm, not a mystery. They weren’t “free” enough so we had to starve them and eventually help local hogs overthrow the government there and run everything into the ground- but America go their oil, etc.) and why it is that every time there’s a “bad group” or “bad guy” like Hamas, or the Taliban or whatever else, bin Laden, Saddam, Putin, that they always seem to have odd ties to the US for a while before the US goes “oh, this guy is bad now.” Like why is the average of choosing leaders 0% on the “everything turned out ok, actually”?
That’s probably a rambling mess, I just got done running and am in a semi-delirious state, but basically fuck liberals, read a goddamn book and take a scalpel to all the shit in your rotten brains centered around “American Exceptionalism.” The only thing America is exceptional at is mass murder and self delusion.

A while ago in Swiss news they asked the question why, despite all the similarities to the USA, most importantly the high percentage of foreign people (and particularly, clashing cultures), why Switzerland doesn’t have the same racial tensions and conflicts seen in the USA.
Not once did they mention the comparatively much better material conditions. Instead, it was all pretentious talk about how much better Swiss culture is, yadda yadda.
If Switzerland wasn’t sitting on a mountain of wealth, you’d see the hogs going wild here just like anywhere else.

I don’t understand how over a millennia of one entity controlling the vast majority of the christian religion could have been twisted from a mutual aid society in the Levant into this? I mean there’s no history of any bad things Christians did before this

Hot Take: I’m a bit skeptical of how some people paint early Christianity as a super progressive thing that got perverted by the Catholic Church or whatever. I was raised in the faith, and yeah Jesus had a lot of cool things to say about helping the poor and the rich being corrupt, but I think describing him as a “socialist” for that is a stretch at best. In the actual context he was saying it, it really comes off more as basic Millennialism, you give to the poor not to try and build a better world without poverty but because you end to purify yourself of material corruption for the end times which are totally coming really soon guys, just right around the corner.
This isn’t to say having a progressive interpretation of Jesus’ teachings isn’t valid, it’s no more or less valid than any interpretation of any religion, I just don’t agree it’s inherent to the original doctrine as some seem to feel it is.
When I say “early christianity” I guess I basically mean the parts of Acts where everyone would join and sell all their possessions, and the “church” (still a small Jewish sect) was using the funds to help widows and other disadvantaged folks. At least, that is how it was described in Acts
Jesus himself - not a socialist really. I mean, some of his parables are based in capitalism (Parable of the Talents, Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard). He definitely became political, even if he didn’t mean to. Ofc, I don’t really trust the gospels as a historical account.
