I assume they’re just killing monkeys so they have “progress” to show Musk, but I can’t imagine working like that. You’re trying to do literal brain surgery using novel techniques to install neural prosthetics, then get some kind of useful data out of them. Like I’m assuming they’re doing bogus “experiments” just so Elon can see the parts of his toy moving and then trying to mix the real research in with that? But I’ve also seen people in the neuroscience field saying that nothing Neuralink is doing is new or particularly interesting, and that what they’re attempting was already mostly accomplished twenty years ago.
