The Tesla uses simple cameras with a low unit cost that are incapable of seeing depth or color. They hope that they can “machine learn” the pixels so hard that it maybe, someday, drives better than the average shitty driver and they can call that a victory.
The right uses LiDAR. It just fucking sees the child. In 3d. And doesn’t kill the child.

The worst part is earlier Teslas DID use LiDAR, but then they purposely switched away from using them in favor of the objectively inferior option, and now just dodge any criticism from actual experts (although you don’t need to be an expert to understand this).
The only justification that Musk gives is that he wants his AI to “behave like a human”. No reasoning, completely ignoring the idea of one option being better. Absolute psycho with psycho fans.
