But they did anyway, because they had to in order to stay landlords, clearly something they felt was much more important than how bad raising the rent made them feel. Here’s a fun question, who’s worse, a sociopath with no sense of empathy fucking people over for personal gain, or a fully empathetic person actively ignoring those impulses for the same reason?
It’s also incredible to me that bosses day is an actual thing in US offices and some employees really do buy their boss a present.

It sucks that we’re getting all of the neo-fuedalism , but none of the giant robots. Science Fiction authors really fucked up their predictions for the 2020’s.
Early science fiction authors fucked up, then cyberpunk came along. If you go around asking “Where’s my flying car!?” you will be disappointed. If you instead ask “Where’s my environmental hellscape ruled by megacorporations with their own security forces, who beam advertisements straight into my brain!?” you will also be disappointed, but for the opposite reason.
