Huh?
When I’m watching youtube every so often I will get some crappy dailywire ad shilling their new dailywire plus service. The centerpiece always seems to be Petersons crappy exclusive shows. Honestly it is some of the most cringe worthy garbage ive yet seen from the man and that’s saying a lot. I mean I guess it’s “philosophy” if you’re a 16 or 17 year old kid.
He literally called one of his shows “Dragons Monsters and Men”
Dragons
It’s so weird to me that people actually think of him as some kind of intellectual yet he believes nonsense like witches and dragons exist.
Red Pill Ringleader Jordan Peterson Believes in Dragons and Witches | Observer
“It makes sense that a witch lives in a swamp,” Peterson told the publication, seemingly out of nowhere.
When confronted with the possibility that witches don’t exist, or live in swamps, the men’s guru doubled down by adding dragons into his explanation.
“Yeah they do. They do exist,” explained Peter. “They just don’t exist the way you think they exist. They certainly exist. You may say well dragons don’t exist. It’s, like, yes they do—the category predator and the category dragon are the same category. It absolutely exists.”
“It’s a superordinate category,” he added. “It exists absolutely more than anything else. In fact, it really exists. What exists is not obvious. You say, ‘Well, there’s no such thing as witches.’ Yeah, I know what you mean, but that isn’t what you think when you go see a movie about them. You can’t help but fall into these categories. There’s no escape from them.”
He’s not entirely wrong there, he’s talking about the categorical ideas that exist within the ecosystem of our history of memes, our stories, and thus our cognition. The legitimacy of Peterson’s career in academia was built on rehashing Joseph Campbell’s work on the monomyth. What he’s talking about is the congruency behind ideas and how they work together. “It makes sense that a witch lives in a swamp,” If I tell you a fictional story about a witch living in a swamp, it wouldn’t require much background for you accept it, right? I wouldn’t have to give some long string of anecdotes of how she ended up there. That’s because the history of our stories and what you’ve probably consumed does the work for me. We have a shared culture of meme experiences of witches with pointy hats out in the middle of the woods.
Peterson’s sin, in this realm (there are plenty others outside of it), is that he takes things that exist as metaphors for understanding how we internally process our thoughts and feelings and “factually” applies them to other people in the real world as broad categories. Like his whole “woman as chaos” shtick; He’s taking an archetypal metaphor for our internal chaos, that one should be using for self-inspection, and projecting it out on to people in the world like a fucking solipsist.
Look fuck Peterson but he’s talking metaphorically, not giant fire breathing lizards.
His metaphor is bullshit, though. He’s some kind of Jungian and like all Jungian is a quack whose ideas aren’t worth consideration or discussion. Remember kids: Freud rhymes with Fraud and Jung rhymes with Dung.
