The carnist wants to believe that they are inherently superior to any non-human animal and that this superiority gives them the right to torture and hack up their fellow creatures for their own pleasure. One reason among many that veganism tends to offend them so much is that it strikes at their ego, their belief that by virtue of their birth they are the apex of creation, and thus entitled to consume and discard those with whom they share this Earth as they please.

I liked that thread but stopped looking into it before

That thread and the more recent Deprogram veganism thread were painful. A whole lot of people get very offended if you dare imply they aren’t the supreme beings on Earth.

Absolutely, two common reactions I’ve gotten throughout the years:

“let’s talk at length about this, and you should have the answer in depth with all facts and figures to any question I ask and I don’t have to have any of that yet I’ll strongly defend anything I believe and also make shit up as we go along”.

And

“I’m going to pretend you’re not here, but also give you stink eye all night, and make a show of not laughing when others are for something you’ve said, and if anything related to diet and lifeatyle comes up I’ll talk shit about your choices but only towards the other people to get conformation and make you feel like you’re not even worth breathing towards”.

It’s so extremely childish and idiotic, sadly that’s all one can expect from most carnies.

Of all the treat defenders I’ve experienced on this site over time, I have not seen treat defenders more indefensibly selfish and toxic about defending their treat consumption than carnists.

Yup! I’ve actually avoided spending much time here the last 2 or so days, because I can just feel that carnists are starting their shit again and I want no part of it. I really appreciate the vegan posters who have the time and energy and desire to engage with carnists recently. I can’t do it myself this time, but if you’re a vegan reading this who has argued with a carnist in the last week, thank you, sincerely! It sucks so hard to see posters you’ve agreed with in other contexts show up with extremely bad reactionary arguments as soon as they get even a smidge of pushback on their carnism.

I don’t enjoy arguing with treat defenders, especially not carnists which are among the worst, but I feel like someone has to speak so the grand nonpolitical “normal” doesn’t continue to be carnism by default.

I’m glad that meant something for you.

Veganism is a completely unreasonable expectation and our rhetoric around it is alienating potential comrades.

So anyways, here’s why we should all be communists…

I think I ran into that crybully, wailing about how “embarrassing” it is to openly dislike the consumption of epic le delicious steak and to not be afraid to say so.

That’s a different one, then.

But then again a poster I previously liked the takes of has very recently gotten very hostile and defensive and flung insults at me in the last few minutes because of defensive carnist rage.

Welcome to /c/vegan and congratulations on your first steps toward overcoming liberalism and ascending to true leftist moral superiority.

Rules

  • No plant-based diet bullshit or promotion of plant-based capitalism. Veganism isn’t about you, it’s about historical materialist anti-speciesism, anti-racist animalization, and animal liberation. Ethical vegans only.
  • No omni apologists or carnists. Babystepping is for libs, and we’re not here to pat you on the back. Good faith questions and debate about how to fight for animal liberation are allowed.
  • No advocating violence to any species for any reason. If you think this is negotiable GTFO. This includes but is not limited to animal testing, slaughter, and mass euthanasia. Anything that promotes speciesism or the commodification of animals will be removed.
  • Use Content Warnings and NSFW tags for triggering content. Especially if a comrade requests it.
  • Questions about diet belong in c/food. It’s also a great place to share recipes.
  • In all sections of the site, you must follow the Hexbear.net Code of Conduct.
