I’m not a gun guy and I’ve been lazy (I only read the very short article) but to me it seems like a 10/10 “What the fuck were they thinking?” screw up by the Secret Service.

Sniper shot at former President Donald Trump from 130 yards away on roof of manufacturing plant

130 yards?!! The fuck was he using a snub nosed revolver, how you miss at that range?

He likely didn’t adjust for elevation and windage. He likely had the crosshairs exactly lined up where wanted but was too inexperienced or in too much of a rush to properly adjust

you really shouldn’t need to adjust for 120 meters beyond setting up your sights for 100 meters then aiming ever so slightly above it. Like unless you’ve literally got zero weapons experience to know how to put the apple on the post, in which case why are you trying to assasssinate a politician, any shooter should know the most basics of basics of firearm usage

Judging by photos that caught the bullets in flight the shots were at the correct height. The shoot missed to the sides of the target not up/down. Genuine incompetence.

Trump was apparently moving around quite a bit when they fired.

The pro-Bernie shooter used an SKS and had zero weapons training lol

Not at that range, shaky hands and all an average shooter can hit center mass with a heavy crosswind. Just saw a former secret service counter sniper say at that range hitting your target is “a given”. Straight up skill issue.

This shooter missed 8 shots from 400 feet? What? Was this a smoothbore muzzle loader or something?

I’ve hit targets 400 feet away with a revolver, goddamn

If it was windy, it’s pretty easy to miscalculate a shot.

I want to start a new grift for paranoid politicians: renting out huge portable fans to them that run at quickly changing speed/duration intervals, and claim it interferes with would-be snipers.

One dead, one seriously wounded, and one minor wound.

So not nothing, just missed the one target they were probably aiming for.

In the video you can see Secret Service facing his direction for several seconds before Trump is shot at. It’s baffling.

I assume secret service has protocols to wait up to and basically right up to the exact moment of action by an attacker. Even though it should be common knowledge that you cannot do this because of basically what we saw today, surely tons of people do things like climb nearby buildings and maybe even setup like tripods to photograph or video politicians. The secret service isn’t just gonna brain some guy 150m out if there’s any chance he’s not doing the damn thing. Of course they should’ve had local police or secret service at that location either on the roof or blocking access. Crazy that this was allowed at all. Crazy that the shooter seemingly knew he could get away with it. Maybe he saw how secret service guarded the area in the past or just got lucky. This whole thing is gonna fuel so many crazy conspiracies for years to come

Evidently they don’t because I’m sure people do what you describe but how do you, as a country, get to “Cop starts shooting at handcuffed perp in his own car because an acorn dropped on it” vs. “Our ROE says we can’t shoot first to protect whoever the secret service protects”?

What I don’t get is why on earth didn’t the SS keep Trump’s head down as they got him out of there? This seems like the most basic, obvious shit to do if you’re trying to protect someone. Sure, maybe the gunman on the roof was already dead, but there was no way to know whether he was working alone. There could’vebeen someone else waitingto take a shot. Aren’t the SS guys supposed to be highly trained?

My wild hunch is that Trump’s entire Secret Security detail and all their supervisors are totally incompetent because Trump made certain of only one thing. That everybody connected to his direct protection was loyal to him. So everybody is some combination of dimwitted, impatient, arrogant, and entirely unprofessional.

Yeah, so far as I can tell the only reason they get by is because everyone else is every bit as generally kind of naive and gormless

At one point he had Jordan Goudreau doing security for him… You know, the guy whose business idea was putting Marines in schools to stop shooters… and then… invaded Venezuela.

I know! That was wild to see. If there had been a 2nd shooter waiting, his grandstanding would’ve gotten himself killed.

I only hear this in Arin Hansons voice from when he played Mickey Mousecapades. I will only read that string of words in my head that same way even without AVGN for reference.
