these are definitely the actions of a competent political party that is capable of enforcing central control of its party members and definitely not the panicked actions of a loose collection of rich shitbirds whose entire existence is based on patronage

This sure sounds like the democrats. When your ability to win the election is in doubt, make loss certain.

Spitballing, this could really be paving the way for him to actually drop out. Obviously if it were going to happen it should be sooner rather than later. Giving him the nomination means if he drops out he gets to direct who the successor will be using his pledged delegates. If he drops out before getting the nomination his delegates can vote for whoever.

Democracy is when the withered embalmed corpse gets to pick who the president is by pointing in their direction

On a related note if I were a high level Dem politician I would be fucking pissed. The party is basically looking at Whitmer on one side and Biden on the other and saying, “ehh, we prefer our chances with Biden”

Talk about an insult

I hope that’s the case. That would be the sanest course of action. As such, I have my doubts.

They are ceding their strongest arguments against Trump by 1) Being as sycophantic as Trump supporters 2) Ramming through a president whom the people do not want.

I really think this isn’t even done so much to protect Biden as to continue the proud liberal tradition of maintaining the “negative peace of the absence of tension.”
