Another question: who owns the domain hexbear.net, pays for the servers and such?
I remember scanning Hexbear ip and finding prometheus running on some port (i informed them on matrix and they closed it all). It’s an entry level dedicated server from OVH, Sandy Bridge Xeon i think.
I think we had a Liberapay where people could donate once but I can’t find the link anymore

As far as exactly who controls the accounts besides “the admin team” I doubt we’ll get any info on that, for opsec reasons

We currently have enough recurring monthly donations to meet the monthly server costs that host hexbear, our test server, matrix server, and cytube instance. One of the admins owns the domain, manages the liberapay/pateron and pays for the server.
The admins chain smoke, it’s all paid for with Camel Cash.
