Okay I can’t keep up the detached irony this is fucking awful and criminal. Twitter sucks but it provides a vital lifeline and communication platform to all kinds of people from disabled artists and sexworkers to amateur and independent performers to organizers to fucking revolutionaries. Losing a planetary communication network that has no real equivalent is bad and losing it because some fucking failchild dipshit is impulsive, arrogant, and incompetent is criminla. Fuck everything about this and fucking the country and economy that allowed this to happen. A hundred million people are fucked because one guy wanted to post a fucking weed meme.

I get why people are cheering for its demise since it turned into such a shitshow. But it’s possible to imagine a world in which instant communication to almost anybody in the world would be a good thing.
If we didn’t live in hellworld, a website like twitter could be used to improve people’s lives and not make it more miserable. That’s why this is ultimately a bummer.

i thought about linking this site to some people on twitter but at the same time i feel like that can also invite so many more wreckers and that would be worse IMO cause there is already a bunch. i did DM it to a few people who i know are cool but yeah, twitter is on life support right now. I saw earlier that almost everybody who maintains twitters database has quit and that’s fucking gnarly as hell to me, idk what the true figure is but people are saying only like 300 employees left. the site has too many moving parts for that, i don’t care how “hardcore” of a superfan they are to elon the site is absolutely about to change dramatically after they figure out how to keep it online.
i just truly feel bad for all the activists out there who were able to spread some solid reality to the world and how many people depended on the so called “town square,” it may be a hellsite but hell is on earth and it provided a good service. twitter has so many faults but it allowed people to post some real ass shit, in the moment that has mattered. so many massive newsbreaks have happened there and it has also moderately protected whistleblowers or other people on the ground, the site actually scrubs EXIF data which is the easiest way for the average person to out themselves unintentionally. idk how much longer those types of protections will last that also has truly world wide reach. most of the alternatives people are migrating to aren’t actually used by all parts the globe and are also censored much more heavily
