He’s a guy with a big ego that wormed his way into the Revolutionary Communist Party USA way back in the 70s. The party was part of the Revolutionary Internationalist Movement and made some decent contributions, even after Avakian worked his way into the leadership. Once he became leader of the RCP-USA however, it started degenerating because Avakian was pushing his “New Synthesis” theory aka some idealist bullshit. The party shrank and essentially became a cult as all the proper Marxists and communists got out leaving only the ones most devoted to Avakian. Now it’s just a bunch of cranks and weirdos pushing Avakianism
It’s true that rise up banks on bringing in younger people who are super new to politics and activism to engage in die ins and other stunts for the media. They don’t even do that good of a job hiding that it’s a front org for The RCP.
