Yeah people keep forgetting that Wehrmacht fascists bombed Hitler in July 1944, not out of any hatred for Nazism, but because they wanted Germany’s involvement in WW2 to end. The supposed “resistance” of guys like Erwin Rommel passively choosing to avoid exposing assassination plots wasn’t some noble stance against fascism, they were fascists who wanted better fascists in power.

If the GOP captures enough state legislatures, they can call a Constitutional Convention to change the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights.
If it makes you feel any better: They’d be able to call a convention with 34 states, but would still need 38 states to actually ratify and confirm any changes, which is highly unlikely even in Hellworld (Never say never tho of course).
I think this year’s elections were be a dry run for GOP malfeasance. And the 2024 elections will be a sick, corrupt joke where the GOP perverts our electoral system. They could certainly get to 38 states by the end of the decade.

My current position is that the domestic and international bourgeoisie will try to stop the US from balkanizing by any means necessary. Because a balkanized US is a US that would lose it’s ability to be an imperial hegemon - and that’s bad for capitalists not just here but all over the world. Take the boot off the global south and profits would plummet to a degree that would make the great depression look like a balloon party.
HOWEVER, the bourgeoisie are by no means some omnipotent force. Overturning Roe is one big brick in the balkanization wall and could precipitate a series of events that could lead to a breakup of the US. Because basically everyone who is either a lib or a reactionary in the US is OK with states doing their own thing. So Roe is overturned. Chuds are happy because red states ban abortion, and libs won’t care because blue states will allow it. But that means everyone’s just doing their own thing which will help break any remaining sense of unity or even concern for preserving a union.
Like, if the GOP tries to get a federal ban on abortion, I don’t think a state like CA would try and secede, libs are too spineless for that. They would just say they weren’t going to enforce it or some shit. But then if the federal government plays hardball that could spiral into a situation even the bourgeoisie can’t control.
I’d imagine after a certain point you’d have elected officials stuck at the core of this contradiction where if they do what their donors want, they’ll be legislating themselves out of power. It’ll be interesting to see how that pans out
