About five hours in, game is finally starting to open up after three hours of cutscenes haha. Very fun, despite a little bit of clunkiness it doesn’t show its age too badly. I’ve always enjoyed metal gear, never got around to playing 3 or 4 though, and the 2/3 HD bundle is on Xbox Gamepass.

More than anything it’s got me thinking I should go back and finish Phantom Pain at some point. I got it at launch and played like 50 hours before some cloud save fuckery lost me like 20 hours of progress and I didn’t have the motivation to keep it up.

Man I just stopped playing after beating the first boss of Phantom Pain. The environment is so monotonous, it’s just endless desert with the same encampments. I even love the setting of Afghanistan but it’s soooo repetitive. I sold my PS4, I wish I had finished it but there’s not enough cutscenes (ironic, I know) to keep me interested in the story when everything else is so repetitive.

MGS3 is probably the second most accessible Metal Gear game. The story doesn’t reference the other games a ton and the gameplay mostly holds up. Some of the Raikov and Volgin things are questionable in 2020 tho.

I enjoyed it enough to recommend Portable Ops and Portable Ops+ which are both MGS3 fanservice with worse mechanics and controls.

I played through this game so many times. Even on a 3DS XL with an attached “circle pad pro” on the right side, and added 2 extra triggers. Thing was nuts.

Don’t finish Phantom Pain. Just enjoy the memories you have of it, as the ending is wafer-thin and unsatisfying, due to the project being forced out before Kojima got to do all he wanted.

I prefer the bosses of 3 to the girls in 4, mainly 'cause I think they were more visually impactful.

Ugh, don’t remind me. While the first 3 MGS games had all had all kinds of goofy sex stuff that I mostly didn’t have a problem with, MGS4’s tone in general just felt really off to me somehow and I just found the bosses and their photoshoot minigame a bit too weird and creepy

MGS3 is my favorite hands down. Maybe cause it’s the first one I played but the aesthetic of the entire game is good. MGS4 is still objectively the best game probably.
