I was there in 2017 as well, but the protest I remember most were the pro-Crimean Annexation bunch. Some of them were openly communist, hoping to bring back the Soviet Union, others I spoke to were Russian nationalist looking to expand throughout the Orthodox world. It’s always a fascinating mixed bag at the Brandenburger Tor.

I really like Paradox games. I’m embarrassed and ashamed to admit it, but here we are. I know Stellaris glorifies corporate space genocide and EUIV’s mechanics include the literal slave trade. It’s bad, I recognize that it is bad, and why it is bad. But I really enjoy dreaming up the stupidest possible campaigns, like conquering earth as communist Ulm and forcing any nation I conquer to release all its colonies.

I’m just super glad they made the visuals more reminiscent of EUIV than Imperator. That left such a bad taste in my mouth that I was very scared when they started hyping up CK III. From what I’ve seen of it so far, it looks like they have learned from their mistakes.

It really felt like they rushed it to me, as though the game wasn’t quite ready for release, but they had to get it out on time. If they had added the later patches at release, it might have been a decent game in and of itself. I’m just grateful they listened to the community when they were preparing CK III. It’s such a beloved series, and it would have been a shame to see it beset with problems. By that metric, I guess Imperator fulfilled its mission of creating better games.
