The hypocrisy means I simply can’t take any of their capitalist criticisms seriously anymore.
I’ve been pretty disillusioned about these sort of spaces since I realised the majority of the online leftists are motivated by clout. Most are exactly as progressive as necessary to raise their own lot in life.
Your last sentence really resonates with me. I can understand someone saying “stop bringing it up it’s annoying having to deal with my cognitive dissonance” if they have never heard of/considered veganism, but most people here have by now, so now it’s just since it affects them changing aspects of their life, they can’t be against the suffering of animals.
It always irks me when they begin with “I think veganism is good but” as if it’ll will win conciliatory points given that they won’t change anything in their lives.
