I’m actually insulted on behalf of Obama here. He consistently kicked McCain’s ass that whole election, and he’s getting condescendingly lectured to by this fictional president. The level of pompousness and arrogance is sickening, even for Sorkin.

Edit: Had to stop at the part about his daughters. Fucking sickening. If cancelling is really a thing, Sorkin should be cancelled for that

I hate that fucking show so much. The West Wing really normalized all the bipartisan centrism that Democrats adore these days. Most of Obama’s staff loved that show and he was more or less, the West Wing president given how obsessed he was with reaching across the aisle and letting Republicans walk all over him.

That show really pushed smug liberalism to the forefront, along with Bill Maher who was at his height of popularity during it’s run. Back in the 2000s, liberals used to cite that show and Bartlet as “what a real president is like!” in reference to how stupid George W Bush sounded any time he opened his mouth. I know it feels like a lifetime ago, but there was a time when liberals used to hate Bush and say he was the worst president ever and talk constantly about how stupid he sounded.

Sorkin writes every character like they just launch off into rants giving stats that no one in real life can memorize or would care to memorize and always belittling people. Again, I hate that show cause it normalized smug liberalism and was the start of this stuff along with the obsession with meeting in the middle with Republicans. I can’t believe in 2020 it’s still relevant and spoken about fondly.
