It’s been a fucking week on this godforsaken hellforum. Honestly, if you’d told me just three months ago, that all it’d take for a disturbing majority of regular Hexbear posters to put on their best Klan Grand Wizard cosplays and show their goddamned asses, was a white supremacist techtwink with a slipped disc and a socially-murdered mother revenge-killing a CEO?

I’d have scoffed at you and asked “where do you think we are, lemmy.world?” Some of these crackers’d be a better fit over there.

I keep thinking about the way one of them kept emphasizing, all through the struggle sesh, how they and 80 other people agreed with someone who genuinely thinks that Black folk should be perfectly fine standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Klansmen. I can’t get it out of my head; I genuinely think a lot of these motherfuckers are ‘one bad day’ from paying dues to David Duke and burning crosses on front lawns at this point.

Like even if I gave them the benefit of analyzing the conditions that lead to them having those views as adolocents (learned from parents, peers, just society in general, poor material conditions, etc.) the fact that at the drop of a hat they’ll revert to those views or try and tell off the legitimate concerns from POC over someone’s problematic views makes me think that they haven’t really completely gotten rid of that part of themselves. White privilege really is alive and well among these people.

It strikes me that to be white during the past 30ish years has meant to live at the end of history. There is no change, no larger narrative, just the current moment without context. Whatever the people on their Xtormfront feeds or on reddit are talking about becomes the most important opportunity to do activism by posting at nazis. Literally just get off your anger appropriation website and learn about what actually revolutionary people are like. And if you didn’t do that before this oh-so-important moment, well, too bad, but you could finally do it now if it’s such a big deal.

Or just get all your Luigi praising out of your system with the people in your personal life, towards the radicalisation of who this is supposed to be such a great opportunity to leverage. And then talk with nuance when you’re amongst comrades, it’s not even that much to ask for jfc

Westerners tend to associate heroism with the act of killing. If no one dies then it is not a heroic act just a good thing to do.

For real. When I posted in the mod announcement thread I made sure to make it clear that I just wanted people to be smarter about how they are approaching this whole situation and not to make it about celebrating this guy until we know that he doesn’t still hold these racist/xenophobic views. It still got someone agitated enough to have a whole debate about it.

I should have known better because as soon as I started seeing people talking about how “beautiful” it was to see the left and right come together it should have indicated just how much shit they were willing to accept even if it meant waving off the concerns of the empoc userbase here (and possibly IRL too, with how some people were talking in that thread, which is what matters most)
