I was definitely fascinated with them for a bit, joined a couple of discords just to observe. I was actually completely open about being a socialist and they still let me hang out and watch 'em like zoo animals so that was cool.
I ended up being pretty disappointed though. The majority of them are relatively normal chuds, a good chunk of them support trump for example. It’s like … motherfuckers, Trump is the perfect example of why hereditary monarchy doesn’t work! If you’re gonna be a monarchist, at least support people who would actually do something good for someone other than themselves if given absolute power, like come on. I’d be a better monarchist than these fuckers and I want to see every monarch’s head on its own spike in the world’s coolest museum.
You made me curious enough to type “north korea” into one of their discord servers, which I still had tucked away in one of my many discord server tabs.
(I also actually asked them their thoughts on it, but it’s not super duper active at this time of day, so I’m not sure if I’ll get a response.)

Edit2: Proper responses (Warning: … Racial … slur??? I’m not quite sure. Is that term he called DPRK citizens even a real thing? What is this?) It’s interesting. I also scrolled back a bit, and these guys do have some anti-imperialists among them who, whatever they might believe about the DPRK, critically support it to an extent. I asked and yellow dude is from the US, so I’m surprised to see them acknowledging the propaganda.

They’re so disappointing, tbh. The ones I run into tend to be these “dark enlightenment” edgelords who basically say everyone is corrupt and awful so you might as well just have a king because at least he’ll be invested in the country to the extent that he can exploit it long term. Basically just “everything is so shitty that we may as well just take a fucking gamble and hope the corrupt self-serving monarch we appoint is at least more efficient than what we have now.”
It’s so sad. Like, if I were gonna be a monarchist I’d go full on Don Quixote or The Napoleon of Notting Hill with it, talk about honor and virtue and noblesse oblige, you know, something to believe in, something to inspire people. Capital-R Romantic stuff. Sew some tapestries! Record the annals of history for future generations, for once this whole democracy fad fades away! Travel from town to town, putting random strangers through some test of virtue to see if they’re fit to rule, and crown them with regalia you made in your basement! Sure it’s delusional but at least it’s fun, and hopeful, and at least I can understand why you’d want that reality instead of the one we’ve got. If you wanna be a hopeless cynic, why not just be a leftist doomer?
There are a few monarchists who don’t take themselves as seriously and are closer to what I described, and those ones I get. They’re sane enough to see how shitty reality is and they just want to run away to the fairy tales they heard as children. I don’t think they’re bad people - it’s kinda endearing imo. But unfortunately they tend to be the minority to the trolls and edgelords, who are just as shitty as any other right wingers.
Well that’s enough reality for me for one day, time to head back to chemical bliss.
