Organizers of next month’s Edmonton Heritage Festival have decided there will be no Russian pavilion this year, citing safety concerns, threats and objections from the city’s Ukrainian community.

Safety concerns have also been raised. The association said it has “received several threats” demanding that the EHFA not allow the Russian pavilion to participate.

After consulting with the Edmonton Police Service, the association said allowing the Russian pavilion would have required additional security to mitigate the risk of incidents threatening the safety of people at the festival.

This is also the city with multiple monuments to ukrainian nazis and collaborators, one to the 14th Waffen SS Galicia Division and another to Roman Shukhevych.

Oh, and Isreal will still be represented despite their many crimes against humanity

Canada delenda est

This is so dumb, dude. They only started having a Palestinian pavillion like the year before covid and it was such a big controversy, lmao. The fuck do Canadians or Permanent Reaidents here of Russian heritage have to do with the SMO???

It’s nothing but straight-up mask off xenophobia. Heritage festivals are for the “good” cultures we approve of, not those disgusting barbaric cultures

Westerners believe that every Chinese person living abroad, regardless of their views on China and the CPC, are obligated to report intelligence back to their government whenever they’re asked. How are they obligated? Well, you know. Cosmic Chinese brain synapses that make them inherently supportive of the CPC’s policies. They’re all sleeper agents for Xi to say La Li Lu Le Lo

Is that the one that also talks about that Wortman mass shooter psycho who had a suspicious number of contacts to both organized crime and law enforcement?

Cool and good to see calling in threats can get action, clearly not a criminal thing to do that requires investigation and introspection and can’t lead to any unwanted outcomes. Terrorism wins again!

Yet when someone paints “14 Waffen SS” on a monument to the 14th Waffen SS it gets investigated as a hate crime

Edit: clarification, that was an entirely different monument to the same waffen ss division

“At no time did the Halton regional police service consider that the identifiable group targeted by the graffiti [‘Nazi War Monument’] was Nazis,” the police said, instead suggesting it was the Ukrainian community that was targeted. “We regret any hurt caused by misinformation that suggests that the service in any way supports Nazism.”

EPS has wanted to go after Duncan Kinney for a while, him being blamed for that (good and based imo) vandalism was just retaliation for his reporting on EPS.

here are a couple excerpts from the Commission of Inquiry on War Criminals in Canada, also known as the Deschênes Commission.

The Galicia Division (14. Waffen grenadier division der SS [gal. #1]) should not be indicted as a group. The members of Galicia Division were individually screened for security purposes before admission to Canada. Charges of war crimes of Galicia Division have never been substantiated, either in 1950 when they were first preferred, or in 1984 when they were renewed, or before this Commission. Further, in the absence of evidence of participation or knowledge of specific war crimes, mere membership in the Galicia Division is insufficient to justify prosecution.

Finally, this is not a case for denaturalization and deportation. The members of Galicia division have never hidden their membership in the division, nor indeed could they. Canadian authorities were fully aware, in 1950, of the history of the division. When they gave the green light to the admission of its members, they knew where these members came from and what they had been through. There was, therefore, neither false representation, nor fraud, nor concealment of material circumstances; admission to Canada and subsequently, citizenship, were not tainted with any irregularity.

basically boils down to “they were just good anti-communists and also they told us they were nazis so it’s ok”
