warner bros could ritually sacrifice a dozen trans folks on a livestream as viral advertisement affirming their support of said terf, and i doubt it would cost them a dime in sales. fans might moan about it being soOoo mean, but theyd still preorder that shit by the millions… so what does it matter that the giant corporation is providing moral cover for those fans to do that same thing sans any feeling of guilt at all? i dunno. i guess i just feel like its all a big publicity stunt.

Well their entire statement on the matter as it stands is:

"J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game, however, her extraordinary body of writing is the foundation of all projects in the Wizarding World. This is not a new story from J.K. Rowling. "

So it’s just pre-emptive ass-covering in case it blows up. It’s not like they’re going to lose any sales for making it and some fans are just looking for the teeniest tiniest excuse to jump right in anyway.

An attempt to pull “death of the artist” on an author who is very much alive and profiting from the world she’s created

One of these days I’m going to write an effort post about what Death of the Author actually is, because shit like this irritates me so much
