I went to a vaporwave themed gay wedding MCd by a drag queen and hosted inside a dead mall. It kicked ass 10/10

I’ve been to five so far: my mom’s, my stepfather’s, a friend’s, my cousin’s, and my uncle’s.

My favorite by far was my uncle’s, because I got to dress up in snazzy western wear, smoke cigars, drink lots of whiskey, and at the end of the night I wound up sleeping with a beautiful older woman twice my age, who also happened to be the bride’s mother.

I’m normally an extremely reserved person, to whom these kinds of shenanigans emphatically do not happen, so getting a taste of all that at the tender age of 23 was simply fantastic.

All in all, weddings? Highly recommended, always a good time.

I’ve only ever been to family weddings as I’m still pretty young, so none of my friends are getting married yet.

Wedding #1: Super religious uncle, incredibly boring and off-putting, I had to take fucking vacation days to go because they did it in the middle of the week.

Wedding #2: Chuds. Typical giant wedding with like 200+ people. Left as soon as possible.

Wedding #3: Had to fly cross-country, only really knew the bride and my other family members. Read a book on my phone. Got food poisoning.

All in all, have to say I’m not a fan.

I’ve been to two that I enjoyed, and two where I just zoned out and waited for it to be over.

First one I enjoyed was my parents’ after gay marriage was legalized :flag-lesbian-pride:

Second one was an uncle who kept it super casual. He basically surprised the whole family by showing up to a get together with his girlfriend of a couple years, saying “hey we’re about to get married outside if ya’ll wanna come”. Great wedding, great party that night.

The boring ones were the weddings of family members who insisted on having a full on Catholic ceremony. I mean if those symbols have meaning to them then I hope it was everything they wanted it to be, but I just put on my polite face and thought about literally anything else until it was over. One of the after parties turned out to be pretty memorable though because my mom and her sisters got trashed, and I was like twenty and had never seen them like that before - the other one I was like twenty five, stayed an hour and bailed.

Of those three couples the only one still together are my moms, another W for the LGBT community.

I only went to my own wedding. No one was invited and after the ceremony we went to the zoo.
