TLDR: She’s pro Soviet Union and anti Putin. The soldier who harassed her and filmed it for his friends says that she doesn’t know anything about the world and that “she lives in the past,” as if the present of being bombed to hell and seeing former comrades kill each other is better.

“What happened to the people of the USSR after the collapse?” is a question that never gets asked. Kind of like “What happened to all the n*zis after WW2?” :agony-shivering:

I’m surprised such a sympathetic article would be written in Wall Street Journal.

Also nice that they gave her food anyways after stomping her flag. I guess those Ukrainian military guys weren’t even super offended at her, just thinks she’s brainwashed and doesn’t understand modern times.

Wonder how old those guys who gave her food were when the USSR collapsed. Maybe not even born yet, but they think she’s a crazy person for being religious and speaking Ukrainian, but missing the USSR.

“To me, it is a flag of peace, the flag with which the war ended in Germany. It is not a flag of evil but a flag of love,” she said as she pulled the banner out of her shed, noting that she still must wash it.
