The world where I find myself explaining to my parents on the way home from the theatre that “it seems to me the series is being set up to send the (correct) message that you must take up arms in order to kill the colonizers in an act of revolutionary violence” is a little better than the world I was living in prior to December 16th
Tbh I think people who don’t like Avatar see it as a standard white savior movie. I thought it was an ok movie at first, until I heard the Chapo Trap House episode on it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7CtTo88QOI). When the boys analyzed it, I realized that the themes go much deeper and it made me appreciate the movie. It’s actually not a white savior movie because

the main character ceases to be white by the end of the movie and completely gives himself to revolution, unlike a white savior movie where the main character always has the option to go back to white society and can move between the two societies with ease. By the end of Avatar 1 the main character willingly gave up his former life, not just in lifestyle, but completely as a human being.
After listening to the chapo analysis of Avatar 1 and then watching Avatar 2, I can say the movie is fucking fantastic. Even better than the first.
