if i recall corectly fidel castro told lula to not give up on politics after losing an election it was something like “you do not have the right to abandon politics, you don’t have the right to do that to the working class” absolute mvp of latam
If I remember correctly Lula had lost an election for governor, in Cuba, Fidel asked how many votes he had won. When Lula said 1 million, Fidel responded with “Lula, never in the history of Brazil has a working class man received so many votes. You can’t give up, these people need you.”
maybe the left leaders in South America have gotten less based because now they don’t have to worry about disappointing Fidel anymore
Has more to do with playing it smart and not getting assassinated. Anyone too far left often gets offed before they can take power. Once they do, it’s hard for the CIA to overthrow them (see Venezuela)
Not being a radical has never stopped the CIA from killing or couping popular leftist leaders in LatAm. A lot of CIA-backed repression in LatAm in the late 20th century eas against lame ass reformists or socdems. It doesn’t have anything to do with radicality, any vaguely leftist economic program will go against American interests, which is why despite being a super republican socdem Lula was politically persecuted.
He isn’t being smart, he’s being naive.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/São_Paulo_Forumountry You guys dont know how based Lula can be, if only the CIA didnt exist im sure probably most of Latin America would be a single socialist country by now.
Sao Paulo Forum? Yeah, this basically helped leftist parties in LatAm and Cuba survive the fall of the USSR
most of Latin America would be a single socialist country by now.
Dead link?
lol is Fidel eating glasses?
