‘Help me get through the winter,’ the Governor reportedly told crypto miners in the state

edit: Companion article ‘A deep freeze is coming to Texas, and no one knows if the power grid is ready’ - https://arstechnica.com/science/2022/02/a-deep-freeze-is-coming-to-texas-and-no-one-knows-if-the-power-grid-is-ready/

What happens when an unstoppable force meets an egg with a big crack in the middle?

Everyone in Texas should use their cryptomining rigs to heat their homes.

Abbott literally invited crypto miners into Texas, thinking the increased demand for electricity would spur a free market™ increase in supply. Now we’ve been fucked because there’s no extra electricity, and we’ll be fucked by another winter storm.

It’s impossible to choose who the worst politician is in the US because there are quite literally thousands who go far above and beyond–in their awfulness–anything an innocent person would imagine.

any meaningful incremental increase in the power supply must cost at least hundreds of millions of dollars

Some senior Republicans, including Mr Abbot and Senator Ted Cruz have held that turning the state into a crypto mining hub would help bolster the state’s energy infrastructure as miners’ rigs would create demand for companies to come along and build more power plants

lmao what. morons

Modern utilities, like heating for winter, can’t simply be built. You have to entice capitalists to do it by baiting and treating them like timid deer fawn

Similar thing happened when Kazakhstan welcomed Chinese miners after Xi banned them. They quickly became the #2 bitcoin producer in the world (after the US) until the recent energy riots forced them to suspend activity. But Texans haven’t revolted against ERCOT despite their fuckups last year so they’ll probably just lay down and take whatever’s coming.

Texans in general are cucked beyond belief. They all play tough on TV, but they are probably the most treat-addicted people in the country. It would be sad if it didn’t fill me with rage just how pathetic they are.

Broke: “You will stop with this wasteful bullshit or I will have you killed by a SWAT team.”

Woke: “I am issuing an order as governor that you will cease and desist in wasting precious power during this precarious time for our state.”

Bespoke: “oooowooowoooo I’m a dumb baby, pwease use less power uwu otherwise people might get mad at me but I don’t want you to get mad at me either waaah”

IIRC they thought the dude was also behind a big computer worm that was taking down systems all over the globe. Not defending them or anything, they were wrong about that anyways, but they weren’t doing it just because of that.
