I don’t understand why blockchain is treated as some holy grail technology? Do most developers support this blockchain everywhere idea? I am start to feel like a conservative because I really don’t like cryptocurrency in the way people are using it currently at least.
I think we could find some uses of blockchain, and cryptocurrency that are much more useful then just having a bunch of get rich schemes.
The real Web 3.0 was a beautiful, useful, positive vision of the Internet for humanity. Sadly we live in hell, so get rich schemes based on very slow linked lists that quietly force libertarian ideology on everyone is what the next 20 years of technology is going to look like.
The ONLY potential of blockchain that interests me is it’s use in mathmaticaly certifying elections
I briefly studied voting systems in college and even blockchain voting is a pipe dream. It is extremely difficult to make a voting system that have all the properties for a safe election, like being verifiable and anonymous. You have to worry about things like vote-selling and coercion. You can actually make verifiable elections with just normal cryptography algorithms that have homomorphic qualities, which lets you do arbitrary mathematical calculations on a payload without needing to decrypt it.
There’s still a whole shitload of technical problems to solve if you actually want to make the web 3.0 vision real on a global scale.
I’m actually not sure if all of those are solvable with our current technology.
And on top of that you’d have to solve most of it being a hotbed of wild speculation and scams.
It’s all just dumb unabashed techno optimism.
