This isn’t the first film like that, either.
I really mean it. I think the vetting process for film making is falling apart because it’s such a glad handing bunch of nepotists and their sociopathic spawn being traded back and forth. Not even the profit imperative seems to be obeyed here because I can’t imagine what the plan was to get enough people to sit down, watch, and actually enjoy watching two sympathetic poor people get hurt and tormented by an uncaring rich brat.
I believe, without evidence and without investigating further, that this was sort of a blank check to the head writer, director, or both. They got to go play with millions of dollars and make a movie about how funny it is when poor people suffer while trying to keep their home.
So they tried to do another Disgusting Little Shit Boy movie (a subset of the general Kid Power genre) and didn’t even bother to try and appeal to kids while at the same time alienating the audience that would see this movie for nostalgia
