Yeah, there are definitely places in North America where you can live car free (they also happen to be super unaffordable, but that’s another story). There’s no reason you couldn’t try and live there if personal circumstances permit you to. It’s not like Europe is 100% bike friendly either, there’s a ton of places where not owning a car just isn’t practical either.

Yep, someone that insists on writing everything from scratch is sort of a red flag to me. Web development is mostly about knowing how to use third party packages and building on top of that.

Yeah, we should be building all the solar panels and wind turbines we can build, whether it makes sense economically or not. As long as you can put them somewhere to generate clean energy instead of fossil it’s a positive for humanity.

Yep, I do the same on the bus. Unfortunately there’s a lack of awareness.

We can either keep pumping oil and burning it, or we can mine some stuff to build panels that last 10+ years and can be recycled at the end of their lifetimes. It’s not like fossil fuel extraction is a clean process (both in ecological and humanitarian aspects), in addition to cooking the planet.

I run it on a pretty old PC and it mostly runs fine. I do get audio stuttering sometimes, but I think that might have something to do with having it installed on a HDD instead of an SSD.

You know how on Reddit people were always bitching about the mods or admins? With federation, you can choose your mods and admins. Still won’t stop you from getting banned from certain communities, but if mods take it too far, you can just start a community on a different server.

I mean, there’s no vote or anything. It’s just that if you don’t like the moderation policies of one instance, you can just create an account on another one that aligns more with what you prefer.
