Border guards are using whips against Haitian migrants

On September 21, 2021, a viral tweet started going around claiming the border guards had deployed whips to keep the unruly Haitian migrants in line. However, upon further investigation, this claim is found to be false, since whips are specifically manufactured to be used against humans and animals. The instruments used by border guards are not specifically manufactured for this purpose, and so not cannot accurately be called “whips.” “Cords” would be a more accurate name. And so the claim that border guards are using whips is not entirely accurate.

I was reluctantly embracing the whole WSB is praxis meme until I had a bit of a scare last night where I thought I was going to be kicked out of my apartment in the middle of a snowstorm. Going on this site seeing people treating a bunch of capitalists investing in the stock market as revolutionary while I’m about to be homeless (fortunately today I am okay) definitely put things into perspective for me.

There is a disconnect on this site - there was that brief period where chapos were posting about their six figure salaries and other chapos were posting things like shit, I didn’t realize the amount of wealth in the chapo community. I’m not going to worry about someone making money (as is always pointed out, there have always been middle/upper class revolutionaries, kropotkin was a prince, etc, etc.), I just hope they realize that it is them who are supposed to be solidary with the proletariat, not the other way around.

In all fairness thats not even the “USA.” It’s Jamestown. That colony created a huge empire. America’s nomenclature belongs, historically, to the entire continent - the USA stole it, in 1776, with the writing of the Articles of Confederation. There is no actual place called “the United States of America.”

I’m convinced this is why anarchism often gets a bad rap. It’s very easy to call yourself an anarchist and not have to challenge a lot of American propaganda and setter colonialist beliefs. Anarchism in the popular understanding lends itself really well to extreme individualism, and you can still criticize American enemies like China and Venezuela on the basis that they are states, and you are against the state. Every college anarchist I knew was like this, as was I at one point. It’s like you are critical of both liberals and conservatives, you know you’re on the left and not a chud, and anarchism is the ideology that you can most fit with your as yet unchallenged beliefs that you have been raised with your whole life. So you say you’re an anarchist when your actual beliefs are more just liberal.

i see shit like this and am just amazed. Like, this isn’t even a “before I was a leftist” opinion. This is like the most basic political opinion i can ever remember having. Like, as soon as I was able to have a coherent thought, as soon as I had a child’s understanding of how the world works, a literal child’s understanding of poverty, I was able to say "maybe people shouldn’t live in poverty. Bro I’ve had the COVID and all I did was hydrate, take lots of vitamin C and A-Z vitamins, smoked lots of weed, had some light sexy time and plenty of rest…seriously I’ve been alot sicker in the past, this paled in comparison to a hardcore flue. Not to say it hasn’t affected ppl in various ways(lost my sense of taste and smell for 6 months), but I think the biggest thing is dont just lay around, get up and do stuff…keep those lungs and body working and dont be a pussy. Work through it and work on breathing exercises to keep the lungs healthy…much Love Joe and hope for a speedy recovery for you.
