Yep, it’s the same playbook as the feds convincing young naïve Muslim kids to participate in “terrah plots” just to get some quickie arrests, except this time the dudes going in the van will be white middle-aged AutoZone shift managers.

Well the other thing they got wrong is that they put Trump in a super-hero cape and made him the protagonist stopping the evil villains from the inside. Rather than one of the gross pedos which he is in reality.

But I agree with you that the underlying theory is correct. They just molded it to fit their pea-brained pre-existing culture war bullshit.

This is a great point I hardly ever see anyone make. A lot of the waste in the tax system comes from people either intentionally or naïvely making errors on their returns, and the IRS having to unravel it and hunt them down for correct payment.

If they did it themselves and just gave everyone a number of dollars they had to send in, it would probably save money and reduce man-hours.

It’s not? Just think of how many young women BIPOC are inspired by her election. They know it can be done. It’s fun to dunk on Kamala but this is very real.

I think any benefits of that, are undone by seeing the first BIPOC vice-president be a useless vapid genocide-enabling shithead.

Same as with Obama. On paper it’s inspiring, but then he was just like every white president, and worse than most.

It has the opposite effect: disenfranchising people of color even further and making them believe that only the shittiest among their community, and the most willing to sell out, can reach the highest echelons. Which, of course, is true

Yep, and also /r/The_Donald. It started as a joke to make fun of his joke candidacy, then when he won, it got taken over by genuine chuds.

If he had said “Trump getting raided is funny” I wouldn’t really have a problem with it.

What’s really stupid is when they act like each bullshit news story about Trump is a domino falling in a chain that will send him and Ivanka to prison in orange jumpsuits

I don’t disagree with most of what you wrote, but we are a long way off from having state-controlled egalitarian media, and within the parameters of what’s possible in the short term, tweaking the existing laws to make media less shitty is something that’s attainable, and would do a lot of good.

I know it’s “lib” to say that short term fixes are good steps to take, and a lot of times it’s bullshit (ex.: ACA), but sometimes it is actually true. The media conglomerates have done so much damage to left discourse in the past 40 years, the left is on the brink of not even existing in this country. I think that before we can even think of organizing anything resembling a revolutionary narrative in this country, you have to turn the media switch back on first.

Semantically you’re right, but what the US had under the Fairness Doctrine was a lot better than the utter dystopian nat-sec propaganda machine we have now.

It’s fair to say that there were still shitty corporate elements to the media back in, say, 1975, but at least there were credible journalists on major media outlets opposing war. The mere concept of that is unthinkable in 2022. Except if it’s Cucker Tarlson who takes a good anti-war position cynically to rope in people to white nationalism.

Agree with your assessment OP, it’s a little dated and some elements could be seen as negative, but well-meaning and ultimately harmless, and kinda charming.
