I get it, we all “knew” it already on some level, but it’s the first time that a major study simply says it out loud that there’s no hope left. Previously, they all had the obligatory hopefull scenario at the end which was theoretically possible, but now there’s not even that anymore. So I think that’s significant.

The stupidest thing about neoclassical economics is it’s inconsistency about unemployment. When talking about monetary policy, they say that the central bank of a country can choose between high inflation and low unemployment or the reverse. But when talking about labor market policies, thay want to remove all “rigidities” (meaning unions and unemployment benefits) so more people would be inclined to seek employment. Both things can’t be true at the same time!

I know I shouldn’t be surprised by anything anymore, but this entire case truly fills me with disgust, despair and impotent rage. This sicko commited a political murder and is celebrated as a hero. I never could’ve fathomed that it would be possible for the overton window to go so far to the right that the killing of some random left-wing protesters could be considered a cause célèbre for standard right-wing politicians. These people want to kill you if you give them any excuse - RIttenhouse did it, but his complete acceptance in right-wing circles shows that many more are fantasising about it.

By the way, for anyone who wants to cultivate this feeling even more: watch The Act of Killing, it’s a documentary about the murderers who participated in the genocide on the Indonesian communist party, in which 2 million people were killed (twice as many as the party had members, because you can’t be too sure).

China is making steps to turn earth in to a type-two civilization on the Kardashev scale, and it’s barely news.

That’s not really bad, I guess. Corbyn was defeated mainly by the hostile employees of the Labour Party who’re all Blairites. I would say he should have fired them. If those people go away themselvers, that sounds great: you can’t even be accused of being “divisive” because it was their own choice.

“Oh shit, we accidentally won control of all levels of government and have no more excuses for doing nothing, quick, think of an idea that will galvanize the republican base in 2022!”

“Nothing that happens in Cuba, Bolivia, Venezuela or the former USSR is of any interest to socialists, because the value-form still exists in those countries.”

I really hate that anchor’s smug “Here goes Bernie again”-look as he’s getting worked up about the fact that people are going hungry.

This is a really important point.

Related: some countries in the Global South which have strong anti-LGBT-laws, have them since colonial times. For example the Ugandese law which specifies a sentence of life in prison for homosexual acts was introduced by the British.
