I got the reference, that’s why I couldn’t be insulted!

I was just clarifying the differences I see between the two statements.

I mean, I can’t disagree with the comparison OR be insulted by it!

I don’t think about us a shared consciousness, or anything else spiritual that we can’t really verify. But we are indeed ancient star remnants experiencing consciousness, kind of like our computers are rocks that can do math. :)

Some very good replies here. I share some of your worries, but with some recent issues I have also gotten a lot of practice seeing the good in things. Consider these 2 angles:

First is the Louis CK routine that includes “Everything is amazing and nobody is happy.” I think it comes down to humans getting used to things that work well and taking them for granted. Compared against most people who have ever lived, we are genius magical wizards who live in luxury. Unfortunately some of our magical technologies let us see the bad shit all around the world (and close to us) that our brains haven’t evolved to deal with.

Second is how absurdly unlikely and unique the existence of our consciousness seems. We are a collection of atoms forged in inconceivably massive exploding stars billions of years ago, aware of its own existence. We are literally the universe experiencing itself.

Mobile games for kids are the worst. Those and any self-help mental health apps.

It’s $10 a month to access the features of a basic game that runs on the local device, or the subscription renews weekly, or you can get a 7-day free trial after which it charges you for the entire year. And in the latter case, you usually have to sign up for the free trial before you are allowed to see ANY content.

A cheap subscription makes sense for some things, especially those using cloud based resources. But so much of that business model seems to rely on making money by screwing people that forgot they were paying you.

Life seems like the result of such an unlikely complex Rube Goldberg machine where everything was just right to let life start then survive for a very long time. Plus we are made of various elements that had to be created in some of the universe’s biggest explosions.

It seems then that life should be something to be cherished while we briefly have it. I try to do just that.

…then we get to watch people around the world working hard to make life worse for those around them.

I think there’s some high quality Borg potential here where they are assimilating existing memes.

Or maybe it’s a competition where the definitely human posters have to trekkify as many memes as they can before the Borg meme squad assimilates them.

I am absolutely looking forward to it! I have been enjoying this rewatch much more than I remember liking the show years ago.

I’m at this sweet spot where I know the broad strokes but don’t remember all the details because it’s been a long time. I can anticipate stuff and see pieces falling into place, but I still get surprises here and there.

I am watching S03 E23 “Family Business” right now!

Not much of the Sisko in this one though. Heavy on Ferengi family drama.
