Since the topic is Ethiopia, what’s happening in Tigray? There’s a tweet about it in the r/deprogram discord that says there’s a genocide. I’m out of the loop.

I have come to identify a bit with various entertainment/games (including Harry Potter 🤮), but never a stan. I don’t get fan fic though. Whenever I find out something I like is problematic I can drop it quick. Often I’ll even search out further reasons why it’s cringe. As someone familiar with the content, the criticism becomes more understandable and cutting.

I hate when I hear someone say (to take the JKR example) “I’m reading the series to my children” or “I’m so excited about the game.” When you bring up the controversy they’re like “I’m aware, I’m just not going to let that ruin it.” Like, have you considered that someone’s terrible ideology has an imprint and is transmitted by their art? It’s very annoying.

All people are saying is while the facts may be there they’re being misleading about the importance of the story, and it’s to propagate negative views about China. It’s calling for people to look at and care about the minute fraction of extreme Chinese who want to leave for a life that we know will be worse. Meanwhile more than 90% of people in China are happy with their government, and the capitalist press never remarks that fact.

I keep thinking about how absurd it is that capitalism produces so much surplus of the wrong stuff that all the food sold has a selling point of “we’ve got less than the other guy.” How insane is it that we have so much Sugar, Salt, Calories, fat - things our bodies naturally crave - that the system must artificially reduce the amount of these things. “With 30% less sugar you can gorge yourself without regard for if you’re actually tasting it or anything, without feeling bad about it.” “You may be stuck eating this unhealthy crap because corn and meat is what gets tons of subsidies, but at least now we’re giving you less of it.” It’s so weird. Save us, socialism.

I’ve explained pretty clearly. The way information is presented supports certain politics.
