It was also only done to avoid another mandate by the center-right party (PSD who had the most votes in the election) and their austerity in the prior years. They’re one of the most principled communist parties not in power and the major reason for their underperformance is precisely because unlike other reformist parties they’ve maintained their anti-EU stance and their opposition to Ukraine and support of countries like the DPRK and Cuba.
