Yeah it’s kind of wild how fast (and stable) rsync is, especially when you grew up with the extremely temperamental Windows copying thing, which I’ve seen fuck up a 50mb transfer before.

The biggest one I’ve done in one shot with rsync was only about 1tb, but I was braced for it to take half a day and cause all sorts of trouble. But no, it just sent it across perfectly first time, way faster than I was expecting.

Yeah that’s my preferred method too. Bitwarden’s password generator can create passphrases too, so I have it just create random ones for pretty much everything. The only ones I have to remember are the ones to unlock Bitwarden itself, and the one to unlock the decryption when I boot my PC up. So like two sentences essentially. I literally don’t even know what the passwords are to anything else lol.

I tried it out on another laptop since I posted this, and that had the inverse - download speeds went up by about 20% or so, but the upload speed seems have taken a hit of about 10%. On my ‘main’ laptop both improved quite drastically.

So yeah definitely a ‘your mileage may vary’ type of situation, but it’s easy enough to reverse I guess so worth a shot if anyone has a bit of a speed problem. You might get lucky!

Just set it up in a VM, I haven’t done a deep dive yet obviously but it definitely looks very slick so far!

If money wasn’t an object I think I’d get a Framework but I’ve always had a good experience with Lenovo for a more budget-friendly option. My last two laptops have been Lenovos and have both worked super well with Linux.

I know logically that people can do whatever they want and it doesn’t affect me in any way so I shouldn’t care, but I do still get a visceral eye-twitching feeling whenever someone talks about installing Windows on a Steam Deck. It’s like someone buying a sports car and using it to tow a caravan or something.

Yeah Cinnamon reminds me of the old Gnome 2 days, before it started trying to get all flashy and stuff.

Maybe yeast is the thing?

In which case, cake isn’t bread.

And also bread isn’t bread, it’s just a really thick beer.

But it doesn’t have alcohol, so you’d need to add sugar.

Then beer is cake.
