If you’re feeling extra spicy, upvote someone else’s comment and reply to it. Or reply to it without upvoting. Or upvote every other comment in a chain. Have real-life arguments. Anything to simulate a struggle session.

I’ve been agitating for a while now about the active sort algorithm being broken since downvotes were removed, and a few days ago I remember seeing a post in the modlog that had a lot of comments but that I hadn’t seen on the front page. I want to test whether or not the algorithm was tweaked to deprioritize posts with a lot of comments and relatively few upvotes.

If this change has been made, o7 to the devs

EDIT: Okay maybe give it a few upvotes to get it started in the algorithm, but let it top out at like 25

So I finally got around to playing Bioshock Infinite, and it kinda…sucks? Like the whole “both sides are bad” shit in the story falls flat and just makes me feel like I’m playing somebody from the West Wing’s fanfiction, but the gameplay itself seems way lamer than I remember Bioshock 1 being. Like the two weapon limit, especially after playing a bunch of throwback boomer shooters, just sucks all the fun out of everything cause I feel pigeonholed into just rolling with the most boring broadly applicable guns all the time. And the enemy designs don’t really help with that since their either regular people that go down in like two hits or ridiculously spongy motherfuckers that just chase you around the arena for 10 minutes with not much middle-ground or variation.

Oh, and as far as algorithm junk I found this thread on the main page about half-wayish down.

Thank you for the troubleshooting session, this is a known issue. We are aware there are things to fix with the active sort algorithm. While it is not at the top of our priorities right now, if others would like to chip in to address this, please go to https://hexbear.net/c/hexbear

But seriously this is just a test to see how it reacts. At the moment this post is at 6th on active sort with 16 upvotes. It’s been theorised by others that the algorithm “breaking” promotes monumental arguments and struggle sessions, which could be taken advantage of by bad actors, such as k*rryposters, to inflame the disagreements further. (There’s evidence of this happening before).

I would help, but I know absolutely zero about algorithms and that. I would probably make it 10x worse if I did anything.
