This Reagan era appointee (to tackle AIDS ffs), has been the face of the pandemic since February, and all that means. As Christman said, no matter the intentions, the mask wearing confusion was a massive fuckup by CDC, HHS, WH, WHO, etc. (China called them out in March for this but 💁‍♂️). He should have resigned months ago. Instead, there’s not even an apology clear enough to stay in anyone’s memory.

Now this fossil scientist is the face of the liberal #resistance covid plan, and will be Biden’s chief medical advisor. So science and trust in scientific guidelines are even more of a political football because this asshole doesn’t know when to leave, his fault or not.

More than the Biden love, the uncritical praise for an unelected, aging man who has been undeniably wrong in many parts of the covid messaging is going to turn people away from what they epitomize. Public trust in science is ruined by his presence.

Try posting this anywhere on reddit and you’ll be blown to hell for violating the lovejerk for Fauci.

Edit: sorry, I’m a fucking hyperbolic dipshit. Of course the death and economic destruction is the worst thing about the pandemic. If I had to compare the Biden love to the Fauci love though, I’d say the latter is a newer thing and were worse off for it.

What’s so insidious about is that you can go back and look at what Fauci said at the time. You can see, knowing what we know now, he was skirting the truth in order to maintain plausible deniability. I got into a long argument on this with dweebs on reddit about this. Back in Feb, after the time Woodward recorded Trump saying the virus was worse than the flu, Fauci literally tells people to worry about the flu more. Then he tells people not to change their habits, not to stop going out to shop, or eat or go to the movies. He says healthy people wearing masks doesn’t do anything to prevent them getting covid. But at the same time WHO and the CDC were putting out stats about how many cases are asymptomatic. So you can be shedding, have no symptoms, and feel healthy. So how would you know to wear a mask based on being healthy alone? But he worded that shit very carefully. Because now you have people saying he was technically right, and that he changed his mind and all these weak excuses. And when you try to piece together the logic of that to them, they just call you a conspiracy theorist. People literally think that nobody knew enough to advocate the wearing of masks for a coronavirus. Despite Asia dealing with a SARS for a decade before covid-19. It’s so infuriating to know what the fuck you’re talking about, and have sources and video and logic, but still get treated like a crazy person.

But that’s what the goal is right? TrueAnon talked about this in the spring, and Chapo just covered it. The goal is to now get us blaming each other for not believing in Science™ and for getting sick or not doing enough to stay healthy rather than blame the people in charge. You’re crazy for not trusting Fauci even though he ‘changed his mind.’ And then that fucker has the absolute gall to address the black community directly and tell them now is not the time for skepticism about the vaccine. If in a few months that vaccine turns out to make things worse in some way, then the same fucking idiots will line up to defend him by saying it’s science to change your mind with new evidence. Which isn’t what science is supposed to be. It’s not a group of credentialed bureaucrats playing loose with evidence and reasoning to cover their ass and defend capital. The science was pretty clear in the spring that wearing masks would help. The gullible ass libs are the ones who believed some ragu-slurpping manlet over science from the ebil communist China.

~~I remember when, probably back in March or early April, he came out and said, “wearing a mask doesn’t help you not get COVID, you don’t need to wear one”. All I could think was “Holy shit, even the top virologist in this shit hole can’t think past an individual level.” ~~

It wasn’t Fauci, it was the surgeon general, but I don’t know if that makes it any better.

It really drove home, even more so than had already been, the absolute cultural/individualist rot that this country has.

It’s a feature, not a bug. It’s just that working people aren’t the intended user of the system.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills that everyone’s repeating this q-anon trump shit. No. He. Didn’t. People are misremembering the fact that he said masks should be prioritized for hospitals while there was a shortage, and that everyone should use makeshift masks.

Did I fall into a wormhole? Do you have a source? Because all I can think is “Holy shit, maga chuds actually managed to change reality for everyone, not just themselves this time.” This shit came out of covid denialism.

“If you look at the masks that you buy in a drug store, the leakage around that doesn’t really do much to protect you,” he said. “People start saying, ‘Should I start wearing a mask?’ Now, in the United States, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to wear a mask.”

He said that in February specifically stating that due to the “leakage” of a typical drug store mask they’re ineffective at protecting you from COVID.

Critism of America’s indefensible COVID policy, and Fauci’s role in it, is not COVID denialism.

Sorry it wasn’t Fauci, it was the surgeon general. He goes on about healthcare workers but “masks aren’t helpful for the general public” was and continues to be a lie.

Fauci did tell people not wear masks. You can find other examples by doing a custom time range google search between Feb 1 2020 and March 31 2020.

which is just so insane to me. Is wearing a mask really that big of a deal? Is it really impinging on your freedoms to wear a piece of cloth on your face when you go to 7-11? I hope some day these people learn what real oppression is like

“Believing science” or “trusting scientists” as an article of faith and expression of personal virtue, without understanding what science actually is or how it actually works, is no different than believing in any supernatural entity.

I’m not against believing science. I’m against “believing science” as a sign of your own moral virtue.

Believe scientists, except on climate, fracking, drug abuse, and poverty. And other stuff.
