or !foss for a more catch-all community, I think that foss would be better if you want to keep the number of communities down, but linux is already a pretty huge topic too so it all depends.
I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as !linux@chapo.chat, is in fact, !gnu_linux@chapo.chat, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, !gnu_plus_linux@chapo.chat. !linux is not an community unto itself, but rather another subcommunity of a fully inclusive GNU catch-all community made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
On a more serious note, I’m totally down for !foss or !free_software as a more generalist and taxonomically accurate community name, but !linux works too.

I vote for foss since I think it sends a clearer message and a Linux community will probably turn into a catch all foss community anyway. Maybe they could be split up as this place gets more popular though?
I like it. It might take some work getting over the name recognition gap with Linux, but calling it !foss unambiguously gets to a goal of discussing/advocating for FOSS projects and culture without necessarily immediately locking all that within the realm of just people interested in Linux. Divergence or making a !linux would always an option later on down the road.
