even if he’s telling the truth, he’s still a sex pest and it’s still sexual misconduct, and it really sounds like he’s not telling the truth.

Having sex with the nanny you hired is sex pest behavior. Giving the “she’s crazy” excuse after admitting you had sex with her is hella sketch.

He also attributed Scarlett’s allegations to a condition she has that’s associated with false memories, but the Tortoise report noted that this isn’t supported by the accuser’s medical records.

I genuinely don’t even know what the fuck this means, the only condition I could guess this as being would be DID, but like “False Memory” people usually either think its its own syndrome or just think its a separate phenomenon outside medical classification, and any other conditions I can imagine are just like, lying b*tch syndrome or whatever, like BPD or something.

Is it just me, or does it just sound like he’s gaslighting this woman?

I went into this thread unconsciously ready to defend him, but that response is exactly the kind of abuser logic that someone would use if they actually did it.

It’s absolutely abuser tactics, whatever specific bullshit he’s referring to is both trying to turn medical stigma against her, and to convince her that she’s wrong about her own experiences.

The False Memory angle is fucking disgusting and was popularized by scumbags

Cw: CSA, victim blaming

spoiler

The founders of the False Memory Syndrome Foundation are a husband and wife whose children accused the father of sexual abuse. Their response was to create the foundation and blame their children (and other victims of sexual violence) for having “false memories” of the abuse, just fucking denying it happened.

That’s whats confusing to me still, like even in that article those people don’t believe that like a separate condition is to blame for “False Memories”, they think there’s a specific syndrome for it, of which the only symptom is “has False Memories.”

I’ve never actually heard a believer in this blame a separate medical condition for it, they think it’s outside manipulation that causes it. The only reason I mentioned DID is that it’s intertwined alongside “False Memories” by reputation through the Satanic Panic.

The entire of concept of false memory syndrome fails to be believable the second you think of victims of sexual violence as real people instead of liars trying to ruin other people’s lives.

Another fake diagnosis to punish victims

spoiler

False Memory Syndrome was popularized by a repeat child molester and his enabling wife in response to their two daughters accusing him of sexual abuse.

God damn it not Neil Gaiman

Gaiman has denied this claim as well. The Sandman author maintains that his relationship with K was never unlawful and that he’s “disturbed” to be accused of such behavior. According to Gaiman, K’s allegations stem from “regret” over the relationship she had when it was over. He also attributed Scarlett’s allegations to a condition she has that’s associated with false memories, but the Tortoise report noted that this isn’t supported by the accuser’s medical records.

You know, you’d think that Neil fucking Gaiman of all people could come up with more plausible gaslighting than this, but alas

Even taking him at his word, he made sexual advances on an employee of his that’s like 40+ years younger than him (in his own home, too) on what is presumably her first day working for him. Power imbalances stacked on power imbalances.

Yeah the “she made accusations because of regret over the relationship” angle doesn’t pass the sniff test normally, but it’s 100x more dubious when we’re talking about famous rich white dude writer.
