It also shows that former President (2007-2017), democratic socialist Rafael Correa, remains the most popular politician in the country, but he is barred from running and currently living in exile in Belgium due to bogus criminal charges. Very similar lawfare situation to what has happened to Lula in Brazil and Morales in Bolivia.

Jakkkobin with a piece on how supporting the socialists is authoritarian and how the neoliberal opposition is quite progressive because they promise some concession that will never happen.

For what it’s worth Jacobin actually has a good take on what’s going on in Ecuador https://jacobinmag.com/2020/08/ecuador-moreno-correa-elections

Isn’t a left wing party in Chile polling well too? Combine that with Macri in Argentina getting voted out, AMLO in Mexico, I heard the Broad front in Uruguay is positioned well even after losing their majority, and if Bolivia holds legitimate elections I think South America will swing left again.

Even in Brazil the only way they could win was by imprisoning Lula and not letting him run, he left office with 80% approval and would have easily beaten Bolsonaro

So Correa has been trying to get back on the ballot but he keeps getting blocked by traitor Lenin Moreno. Moreno was Correa’s VP and handpicked successor (there are limits on consecutive terms) who won easily, but immediately did an about face, invited the IMF back in complete with austerity measures leading to massive unrest and the government nearly collapsing under pressure from Indigenous people occupying the capital. He now has an approval rating around 17%.

Correa also recently attempted to get on the ticket as VP to Arauz, but that was blocked as well. So it’s safe to say Arauz is a stand in for Correismo. And he’s leading strongly in the polls.

That could be right. The poll I linked above shows 12% and the 17 number was from a telesur article I read earlier but either way, it’s abysmal. Correa left office with like 60% and it took just a couple years for Moreno to screw it up. Imagine your parents name you Lenin and you end up being a piece of shit neoliberal lol
