tl;dr: The rise of “996” work ethic and the “Laying Flat” movement essentially pushed Chinese people to take the grill pill and enjoy life, in their cuisine and especially the dumb foreign movies they know to be shit.

To add to that, there are 2 types of media which we enjoy:

Pull media – think of it as books, ARGs, series, or documentaries that require a significant part of your effort to understand and thus entertain and educate you

Push media-- dumb blockbuster movies, such as the Meg, but especially “Fast X”

In a way, I can’t best summarize this.

"In a country where everyone can live without much material worry, artists can devote more time to honing their craft and spirituality and culture flourishes when people are well supported

However, as China enters hyperdrive toward late-stage capitalism. Instead of workers being supported, they are being exploited by billionaires Jackass and Dick. When everyone is busy with work, trying to survive, their desire for (involved) art diminished The culture becomes stagnant and the dragons begin to lose their mystic."

I know Cushman might have something to say about this, likely, but I think its interesting that Accented Cinema is leaning towards this.

Note: Honestly, as much as I may scorn and pity these people for liking Fast X, I honestly think I wouldn’t have done better to cope with their life.

God willing, the rejuvenation of the PRC comes to full effect, under Xi.

I was a hater. But it is so fucking dumb and fun. I was laughing my arse off along with it and its unapologetic and absurd formula. As far as I can remember it had basically zero politics or western hegemon propaganda in it either. Just some very stupid and obvious product placement.

So yeah, it’s fun. I want to see 9 now, because they apparently strap a car to a rocket, drop it out the back of a plane and ride it to space, whilst wearing diving suits, all so they could shoot down a satellite. That is art.

Breadtube if it didn’t suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It’s open submission unless there’s something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it’s currently in.
