It’s easy…

How to Make Oat Milk Step-by-Step | Cooking School | Food Network

  1. Soak the Oats

  2. Rinse the Oats

  3. Blend the Oats

  4. Strain the Oats

  5. Flavor Oats

  6. Store the Oat Milk

For step 4 - I bought this Brand: YZWDTGS - Fine Mesh Stainless Steel - Soy/Oat/Almond Milk - All Purpose Food Strainer. For step 5 - I already had a food processor.

The strainer I bought is ~$20 and it seemed like a bargain to me for step 4 even though I’m cheap. I’m also lazy and sloppy. Nut bags didn’t appeal to me at all. You put the blended oats into the bag and squeeze out the juice. I know - you squeeze it and then it “nuts”. Haha?

YZWDTGS - catchy. In any case - I don’t recommend that model. I only used it ~8 times. I changed my diet and suddenly stopped drinking oat milk. I might go back to it though. Anyway - you press down on the top thing that has a wire mesh that squeezes out the juice into the bottom receptacle.

The reviews I read didn’t mention breakage where the mesh connects to the plastic but I bet it’s a failure point. I almost returned the unit when I took it out of the package. I could see that potential problem right away.

I’ll add 3 things to this.

The first is that step 2 (rinsing) is very very very important. This is where you rinse out most of the starches that make homemade oat milk slimy and gross.

The second is that step 3 (blending) should be done mildly. A high-power blender set to high will make slime again.

The third is that step 4 can be done with muslin cloth, very cheap cotton. You can just get a big square of it for cheap at a fabric store. Squeeze into a big bowl.
