They offer a much much level headed and nuanced opinions than most westerners and have a large variety of views. It shows there is little fear expressing views and more variety of opinions in their news.

I agree if I’m hearing it right, I think she is saying “我觉德用《入侵》这个词可能。。。太严重的”

if so that’s a serious mistranslation in the subs

She clearly enjoys the pooh memes. Maybe she doesn’t know a lot of people share them because Pooh is yellow and Xi is east Asian.

I think they say in the comments that the translation is wrong, and gives the impression that the younger people are less sympathetic to Russia than they really are.

I first saw this video as part of a reaction video from a Chinese youtuber who makes English content, and they didn’t bring up issues with translations. So I wasn’t looking out for it.

Interesting video. Maybe I’m just in a cynical mood, and I don’t know how curated this collection of interviews is, but I don’t think you could create something this coherent in the US. In the comments there’s a lot of discussion of the translation not being exactly right. I don’t speak any Chinese at all, so I have no opinion on the subtitles.

I think from the fact that the location is the same place and roughly around the same time, I think they interviewed people passing by and they chose the people most informed and had a lot to say. There may be quite poor problems with translations brought up in the comments, but some of the people were clearly against Russia’s actions and freely expressing so.

It’s definitely good, and people seem to be very comfortable expressing themselves sincerely.

Breadtube if it didn’t suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It’s open submission unless there’s something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it’s currently in.
