I brought the store brand version of those plastic wrapped nasty cheese product slices to make shitty grilled cheese and they don’t melt at all. Literally, you can put one directly into the pan with the stove on high, and they don’t melt or even get softer, they just become shinier.

Yes, I peeled the plastic off of it, and yes, I know, that stuff is disgusting and not cheese.
They do the same thing with Parmesan cheese (the powdered stuff) at Dollar General. There are 3 different varieties with the same ingredients, and the cheapest is probably mostly sawdust.
In bad country (Cuba), they adulterate their cheese with polymer products to make the quantities that they need.
