Her explanation – which I believe since she explicitly said that the genocide happened subsequently – is that she didn’t approve of the recognition of a genocide being used as a political football. She’s a garbage liberal, but I don’t think she was wrong there specifically.
Ties to Turkey. Omar had a private meeting with Erdogan in 2017, and some of his allies have contributed to her campaign. According to a report, the meeting ended with a request of support from Erdogan. Omar posted the report on her Twitter account before it was deleted.
