Not exactly a take but I think its bad to use “X-oid” as an insulting descriptor.

9.5 times out of 10 you cant even start to pretend you are using it in the scientific “similar to” meaning, like if you’re calling literally a western guy a “westoid” its pretty easy to tell what you mean by it(ableism).

I’m saying that a solid majority of times people say shit like “westoid” or “natoid” this is knowingly or not basically just a veiled way of calling someone the old ableist slur of “m*ngoloid”.

If you call someone some shit like “Hexoid”(-oid meaning resembling or like something) as an insult, for example, but they are literally a poster on Hexbear, then what part of that is the insulting bit except the connotations connected to the slur?

I’m not arguing further on this, I’ve had too many fucking endless “Uhhh no I dont think so” debates on this shit to care further, and I have never seen a valid argument against this that isnt just some accusation of oversensitivity or that it doesnt matter or isnt real.

I’ve always thought of it as a scifi alien thing. “Look out, there are natoids on this planet”

Thats why I said knowingly or not, cause I recognize a lot of people probably don’t consciously draw the connection, but I think its silly at best to look at the two distinct scenarios here for the meaning/lineage of this type of insult, and think its more likely to be a funny reference to alien sci fi names rather than the race science ableist thing.

Maybe its also kind of a matter of different regions, where I grew up the original slur was still used pretty much equally as much as the R-word ableist slur, so I draw that connection immediately.

For sure, I hadn’t considered your pov before, and regardless of how I personally view it I’m definitely gonna be more careful from now on
