And Saddam tried to play ball with the US, IIRC from the blowback pod he saw 9/11 as a way to get closer to the US and try to use it to actually improve relations. Saddam tried to be cooperative to an extent and he still got attacked. That’s the real precedent that was set.

I get that the DPRK is a bit more complex, but I get irrationally pissed off when US Americans talk about Cuba and Castro like it’s some dictatorship when the people of Cuba are more free and have more democracy than we do in the US. IIRC more people were executed in 6 years under Batista than in over 60 years since the revolution.

The USA must treat all other countries even its allies as Dictatorships or at least less “Free” than them or else the False reality of American Exceptionalism falls and its people are gonna demand something better than the Fascist Oligarchy they currently have

Is it actually true? Could you tell me why do you think so? I know that US has only a pretense of a democracy but i was also under impression that Chinese democracy is very hierarchical

You only vote on officials at the lowest level. All promotions and upper positions are gained through a series of examinations, performance reviews, and votes from your colleagues. It’s definitely quite hierarchical but it also weeds out incompetents while still letting grassroots ideas enter the party. In terms of who you can vote for, I don’t think you can call it more democratic, but I definitely think there is a wider range of opinions within the CPC than in the American political system where you have capitalist party that’s ok with abortion and capitalist party that isn’t.

Yeah, there’s not a lot of interface between any of the American parties and the people. They choose candidates from lists their top donors approve of and then let people choose from those.

In China, even though it’s only one party, that party is heavily involved and interfaced with the people. For example, the poverty alleviation program was entirely personalized for every poverty stricken family. Like, each party member was assigned 2 families that they would have to meet with once a month at least and do a report, ask them what they needed, help them get work, education, loans, grants, etc.

This also allowed the concerns of the families to directly impact the party member they were assigned. They could just say to them “hey this is bullshit” and the party member would have to listen and put it in the report. Which allows for general concerns to be incredibly accurately mapped. These relationships went on for years by the way. It wasn’t just like 2 meetings then they moved on. They actually formed relationships with the people they were helping and some even moved to the communities to continue their work even after the program ended.

Democracy isn’t just filling out ballots.

This is effectively a version of early U.S. voting rules but with some better protections against patronage and nepotism.

Personally, I define “democracy” as the will of the people ruling, not just ticking some boxes every few years. More in the general sense… US liberal democracy does not reflect the will of the people or represent their interests - it’s the dictatorship of the bourgeoise. Look at how many people wanted a $15 minimum wage? How many people want universal health care? How many workers actually benefit from our current precarious economic system? But oh, we get to pick between a couple candidates every year or two. Two parties with nearly identical ideologies who usually aren’t in a competitive election due to gerrymandering. Both parties which pay lip service to people but 100% serve the interests of capital. The CPC at least attempts to give people what they want and build a society that puts workers first.
