I am a [redacted personal info]. Can confirm STEM professionals can be quite reactionary. They commonly view themselves as progressive; but it’s an Andrew Yang technocratic sort of progress which does nothing to abolish the real exploitative conditions. They still believe that capitalist technological progress will save humanity, not realizing it will always mean increased profits and exploitation and nothing more.
Basically, the average software developer is Reddit personified. Those people exist, they aren’t bots. They’re roaming at your local Trader Joe’s and Best Buy.
I’m still unlearning some of this ideology that I picked up from that crowd.

I’ve spent a significant amount of time in most states east of the Mississippi. A while ago I went to Texas for the first time outside the confines of an airport.
Texas is maybe the worst state I’ve been to. “Maybe” because I’m deciding if Louisiana is worse, excluding Nola.
If you hate pervasive Republican/conservative/Christian ideology, you will hate Texas. If you hate Libertarianism, you will hate Texas. If you hate car-dominated transit, you will hate Texas.
The best thing about Texas is tacos and general Tex-Mex food. Not a huge endorsement of a place if its best attributes are its external influences.
Going against the grain: people don’t steal candy bowls because of poverty. The majority of trick or treaters will live in the same neighborhood and therefore also live in McMansions.
The video is mostly for fun, being derivative of his larger series where he pranks porch pirates with glitter/stink bombs. Porch pirates affect everyone, not just McMansion grillpilled people, it happens in poorer neighborhoods too.
This same guy also has a series where he helped bust a scam call center in India that was duping elderly Americans of their savings. I’m sure there will be Hexbears who say “the Americans deserved it and the Indians needed the money more” but I don’t think scamming working class grandparents is the bleeding edge of revolutionary action.
It was a pseudo-revival of mid-century folk music. It didn’t last because much of it didn’t have genuine proletarian roots like real folk music. It mimicked the aesthetic and sounds of folk music but none of the content. It never will when it’s just wealthy urbanites cosplaying as poor country bumpkins.
Folk music and related genres (like soul and country and blues) have all suffered for the same reason. Their class character is fake and purely aesthetic today. At least, for the super mainstream bands that make it on the Starbucks Spotify playlist.
There was a megathread a while back about Woody Guthrie. His music lasted because it captured a genuine aspect of working class America in a way that stomp clap hey never can. This Land Is Your Land was a political song. We don’t do that enough anymore, in the name of mass appeal and profit and merchandising. Even Bill Withers, who was merely center-left as far as I know, made music that mattered with lyrics opposing racism and war.
