Sichuan is just kinda good in a bunch of stuff. I keep some Sichuan peppercorns in a pepper grinder, I think they need to be fried a bit to be activated but otherwise they add a fun flavor/spice to a lot of things

The Loki TV show was actually pretty good (I’m pretty critical of marvel slop, I’ll rarely pirate one late night if I’m out of stuff to watch). Visually Doctor Strange is pretty fun. Just a lotta trippy stuff. The second one kinda sucks.

Most of the newer stuff is kinda tired and worse

Last time I drove out to see my mom she asked me if I’d like her to pickup some dinner anywhere before I came in, so I suggested Pho (knowing she would easily be able to eat it, it’s got no spice unless you add it). I explained over the phone that it was absolutely safe, she would love it. When I got there she ordered something else for herself and I had to explain straight up that she was being absurd.

I made Thai food for her later that weekend and it really struck me how sad it was that she’s just kept herself locked up away from all of these amazing foods. Honestly spice wasn’t even that hard to get used to (I’m still not great but I can appreciate a good blend of spiciness and flavor), like any other weird flavor you can train yourself to eat it.

It’s sad because homemade mushroom soup with cream is actually really nice, the canned stuff is kinda horrifying and it’s basically white person umami for casseroles

I used to fry up a bunch of onion and mix it with ground beef and refried beans, along with a packet of “taco seasoning”. I called it taco slop and it was basically a higher grade microwave burrito filling, lol.
