Good option is foraging, hunting, and fishing for food if you have access to rural or wild lands.

It’s a common tradition for people of the old days to gather wild roots, vegetables, berries, etc. And then dry them or pickle them for long-term consumption. If you’re able and have the time to go foraging, buy a book on edible flora for your region and go picking with a friend!
